🔶 Sovereign of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss – Amitabha Buddha
During his path of cultivation, Amitabha Buddha contemplated for five kalpas (eons) and made 48 extraordinary vows, each one dedicated to nurture the sentient beings toward spiritual maturity and attain this pure land. Following this, he accumulated vast merits, and through the fulfillment of these vows, he attained Buddhahood as Amitabha Buddha.
"Amitabha" means "Infinite Life" and "Infinite Light," signifying the all-encompassing, boundless accumulation of virtues. With the wisdom, vow power, and radiant light of a Buddha, he saves and uplifts all sentient beings. Those who sincerely pay homage to Amitabha Buddha and practice in accordance with his teachings will certainly receive the compassionate protection of Amitabha Buddha and all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
🔶 Special Introduction to the Pure Land Repentance Puja
The Pure Land Repentance puja includes bowing to the Three Jewels, offering, paying homage to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, reciting the Amitabha Sutra, chanting the Mantra of Rebirth, repentance, and dedicating the accumulated merits to all sentient beings. As stated in the Pure Land Repentance: “With the merits from this practice, may all sentient beings accomplish their cultivation and attain fulfillment.”
🔶 Auspicious Ceremony
1. On December 17 (Tuesday), in celebration of Amitabha Buddha’s birthday, Ban Foo Monastery will hold the " Ban Foo Monastery Amitābha Buddha's Sacred Birthday Pure Land Repentance and Blessing Puja”. The puja will rely on the mindful remembrance of the Three Jewels, and the disciplined practice following ritual instructions, and the sincere devotion of those praying. The merits from this puja will be dedicated to donors and their families with the intentions that: May those praying be purified of negative karma, attract good fortune, avoid misfortune, prolong longevity, enjoy physical and mental well-being, be freed from obstacles and illnesses, success in work and career, have abundant financial resources, family harmony, and may their wishes come true! May the deceased be reborn in the Pure Land, learn the true Dharma, and attain Buddhahood.
2. The Sangha will sincerely perform the Pure Land Repentance ritual, making offerings before the Buddha, praying for blessings, averting calamities, and dedicating merit to the deceased.
